AVEVA PDMS and AVEVA Outfitting include powerful clash detection capabilities. These may be used interactively by the designers, or as offline reporting tools. Typically, both modes are used.

Clashes may be classified in various ways, such as by severity or by responsible discipline. ‘Hard-hard’ clashes occur between items trying to occupy the same space. ‘Soft-soft’ clashes occur between the obstruction volumes provided around items for access or clearance.

Hard-hard clashes are obviously critical and must be eliminated before release of design to production. Less severe clashes are assessed by category or on a case-by-case basis.

AVEVA Clash Manager is particularly valuable for verifying large parts of a design, or after major design revisions. Eliminating clashes is one of the most effective eliminators of rework costs and delays and AVEVA users regularly achieve completely clash-free designs.
