AVEVA Design Reuse™ - NEW!

Quickly and intelligently copy ship design data between projects for reuse on similar designs to reduce costs.

Even substantially similar ships are unique designs, because the design work for a copy can be as much as 90% of that for the original vessel.
AVEVA Design Reuse overcomes this problem by enabling proven design to be replicated easily, whether of entire vessels or of individual blocks or modules, dramatically shortening design time both for sister ships and new designs.

Manages an extensive set of Hull and Outfitting objects, such as:

  • plane and curved panels
  • shell stiffeners
  • longitudinals/transversals
  • curved plates
  • RSOs
  • frames, waterlines, buttocks and curves
  • bracket panels
  • plate and profile nestings
  • equipment
  • pipes, HVAC, structure, cableway and cables.

Assemblies and marine drawings are handled in a similar manner.

The data definition format is specified by the type of item being transferred. Some items can use more than one type of
format. Typical formats include:

  • .sch (hull scheme)
  • .dtl (datal)
  • .xml
  • .sdb
  • .til

Uses a Graphical User Interface for selection of objects and/or commands. The GUI is a .NET add-in, which is hosted by AVEVA Marine's Hull Design, Outfitting Design and Marine Drafting modules.

The GUI is included in the application framework and works together with the command interface. The two can be mixed.

  • Selectively copy objects, according to properties, attributes or dates
  • Intelligent copying ensures that the original design intent is transferred to the new project
  • AVEVA Design Reuse exploits the Reference Model concept, allowing easy topological reference updates for hull objects
  • Reference objects and data topology are retained in the copy

At the import stage, Design Reuse regenerates model data in an iterative way to retain dependencies between transferred items. The iteration halts when all model objects are complete or when no more dependencies can be resolved.

  • Control name changes on copied data, according to name substitution rules.
  • Handles user-defined attributes (UDAs) for the transferred objects.
For Hull items it is possible to configure in the Item Settings whether the attributes should be considered.
  • Can be used in conjunction with the customer's own Programming Macro Language (PML) scripts to create a full sister-ship handling system
  • Supports advanced customisation based on triggers.

Overview

AVEVA Design Reuse can be used in a range of situations where collecting and reusing previous designs would save time and effort. It allows the reuse of an entire ship design or of individual parts of it.

  • Create a new ship from an existing design
Copy the whole initial project and adapt its references to the new name and potential new configuration, creating a solid basis for any necessary modifications. Ideal for sister ships or series designs.
  • Create a similar ship of a different size
Reuse data already modelled, stretching and adapting the design where necessary.
  • Start a new design using parts of previous designs
Copy selected parts of existing ships as a basis for a new model.
  • Apply a standard design to a new project
For example, standard design elements such as holds can be stored as templates for new designs.

Business Benefits

  • Reduce cost and risk by applying a standard design policy to a new design
  • Reapply your accumulated expertise more easily on future projects
  • Save design time and effort when modelling a new project, especially in the basic design phase of the ship, where
    reactivity is vital
  • Accurate budgeting and project cost monitoring through earlier and more accurate definition of material quantities and costs, based on similar designs.
  • Cut up to 70% off the time needed to redesign a similar ship from scratch.
