AVEVA NET Gateways enable a wide variety of data types to be handled by AVEVA NET and accessed using AVEVA NET Portal. Data types include:

3D data:

  • Leading proprietary 3D model formats, such as SmartPlant 3D, PDS 3D, AutoPlant 3D, AVEVA PDMS, AVEVA Marine and Tribon M3
  • Neutral, ISO 15926-compliant 3D data formats
  • 3D laser survey data from any leading scanning system.

2D data:

  • Leading proprietary 2D CAD data formats, including AutoCAD, MicroStation, SmartPlant P&ID, INTools, AVEVA P&ID and AVEVA Diagrams
  • Neutral, ISO 15926-compliant 2D data formats
  • Photographic formats, such as JPG and PNG.

Unstructured data:

  • Document formats, such as Word, Excel, PDF and Powerpoint
  • Documents held within Documentum® or Sharepoint.

Structured data:

  • Proprietary business data formats, including SAP, Primavera and MS Project
  • Neutral data formats like XML
  • AVEVA Engineering data
  • Real-time and historical instrumentation data.

  • AVEVA NET Gateways convert source data into an application-neutral format, based on the ISO 15926 standard.
  • Data is rendered closely to the format of the original source, whether it is a 3D model view, a P&ID or a Word document. As a result, users can view any type of data without needing special skills or training, or incurring the costs of maintaining numerous source software applications.
  • Gateways automatically match tags and attributes, cross-referencing all sources of tag-related information and enabling any user to perform data management.
  • Hyperlink hotspots are applied automatically to cross-link rendered information. A user can readily navigate from a schematic to a 3D model view to a parts list, and so on.

AVEVA NET technology works with your established business processes and recognised industry standards. Using AVEVA NET Gateways you can:

  • Apply your preferred naming conventions for tagging, manipulating, dividing and extracting information to send to AVEVA NET
  • Automatically extract tags from intelligent source systems. Where there is no underlying intelligence (as in a text document, for example) Gateways apply sophisticated logic to create tags from specific text strings
  • Intelligently extract tag attributes from external data sources
  • Automatically build fully-specified tag descriptions from object attributes
  • Easily configure the automatic mapping of incoming engineering information from its original classifications to the defined AVEVA NET classifications, enabling rationalisation of disparate data sources

AVEVA NET Gateways are the key to the data interoperability power of AVEVA NET technologies.

This extensive suite of information interfaces are pre-engineered and customisable, providing access to all types of data, whether created in AVEVA applications or in other popular business systems. The ability to view and integrate data from many different sources in a single browser makes AVEVA NET applicable to every type of business in the plant or shipbuilding industries. For example, a plant operator no longer needs to own and maintain the many costly, specialist applications used to create the data.

AVEVA Gateways are non-invasive. They do not interrupt workflows, put data at risk or require any manual intervention, but can enhance information quality, intelligence and interoperability. Information previously locked in multiple isolated ‘data silos’ becomes easily accessible as a single body of interrelated information.

Now all members of your project or operations team can have a single information access system, in which data and documents are associated with technical engineering data, controlled and available in an easy to use format.

AVEVA NET Gateways in use

The Gateways scan your information sources for tagged items, extract them, and automatically build relationships between them. New information from different data sources can be processed and added to the common information model, enabling AVEVA NET to store a unified and cross-referenced model of all tags across your project or asset.

Gateways accurately render the source information and automatically apply hotspots to tagged items, enabling easy navigation of related information.

Converting or uploading bulk information to a single format can be effort- and technology-intensive. To overcome this, Gateways can publish to AVEVA NET manually on demand, when triggered by a view request from its Engineering Information & Workflow Model (EIWM), as a background process, or in scheduled batch mode at any specified regularity to suit your business needs.
