AVEVA announces addition of Leica TruView for Viewing, Measuring & Markup of Laser Scan Images over AVEVA NET’s Collaborative Information Management Portal

25 March 2008

AVEVA (LSE:AVV) and Leica Geosystems HDS jointly announced at the SPAR 2008 conference the integration of direct access to Leica TruView laser scan file sets and software within the AVEVA NET Portal. This integration now lets AVEVA NET Portal users freely and easily view, measure and markup as-built laser scan images in addition to providing users simultaneous access to 3D models, schematics, documents and data from any application in context, with full intelligence, without needing the original source applications.

Free Leica TruView software provides users with a truly intuitive way of locating specific laser scan images and viewing, measuring and marking up these images. Leica TruView lets users view full-dome, panoramic laser scans of sites as if he or she were standing where the scanner was. Within AVEVA NET Portal, Leica TruView laser scan files sets are treated as another type of data accessible to AVEVA NET Portal users.  AVEVA NET Portal also provides users with convenient access to the TruView plug-in for those who don't already have it.

Good Fit for Expanded Internet Collaboration
"The capabilities of Leica TruView are an ideal addition to the AVEVA NET Portal for the integration and collaborative use of engineering information over the internet. AVEVA NET Portal already gives users internet access to a wide variety of 3D models, P&ID's, schematic documents. The addition of Leica TruView capabilities now gives these same users convenient access to rich laser scan imagery, site maps showing laser scanner locations, and laser scan coordinate data. This development will allow our AVEVA NET Portal users to intuitively view, measure, and markup laser scan images directly over the internet - with no added cost or hassle," says Derek Middlemas, Executive VP for Business Strategy of AVEVA.

Rapidly Growing Implementation of TruView
"AVEVA's implementation of Leica TruView into AVEVA NET Portal is a great example of the rapid adoption of Leica TruView. Many of our High-Definition SurveyingTM (HDSTM) customers and their clients have already implemented TruView. Users have been quick to point out its value for improved communications and collaboration. The fact that it's free, requires no training, and can be used over the internet is key to this quick adoption," adds Juergen Dold, Head of Leica Geosystems Laser Scanning business. "In AVEVA's case, we are excited to see this adoption spread to a key business partner who offers complementary internet collaboration software that can leverage Leica TruView and provide added value for all."
