Head of Development, ProCon Team, Derry/Londonderry
You will be expected to contribute to the success of the product development team and therein ProCon (Our Software Product), by taking on responsibilities that include:
Leading a highly-performing team of talented individuals
Leading by example, in ensuring your team produce high quality software aligned to architectural best practice, quality standards and procedures.
Inspiring team to achieve optimum performance, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and focusing team on addressing via continuous improvement
Instilling team ethos for challenging opinions, healthy conflict and embracing failure, all within a safe environment
Contributing to recruitment/talent process and advancing individuals' careers through continuous coaching, delegation of suitable opportunities and frequent performance feedback
Facilitating relationships between team members and development management
Building innovative, high-quality, cost-effective business solutions that excite our customers
Collaborating with Product Analysts to distill business problems and define scope of program delivery
Designing and driving implementation of robust, future-proofed, software components with a focus on delivering a cohesive user experience to customers
Safeguarding code quality, through peer-review/education and tracking of Technical Debt
Communicating frequently with stakeholders to confirm alignment with Product Roadmap
Shaping Development Strategy
Influencing an effective departmental software development process (through prior experience and proactive self-education)
Steering development strategy and architecture to be aligned with the vision of the Technical Roadmap
Sharing knowledge with peers through technical communities of practice, whitepapers, etc.
Assuring Product Delivery
Identifying, mitigating and escalating project and product risk that could adversely impact delivery, at the earliest opportunity
Utilising personnel and hardware resources to provide effective and flexible options in how we deliver to market
Analysing, prioritising and actioning customer maintenance requests to uphold company/product reputation
Methodical problem solver and able to coach others to do the same
A good sense of humour such that you have joy in your work which exudes to others
A Computer Science or Maths degree
Commercial experience in any of the following: WCF, WF, WebAPI, Angular JS, AWS
A proven ability to lead and grow a cross functional software development team and handle all matters which this encompasses - pastoral care, personal development, organisation & motivation. You will have been doing this for a number of years such that you have already mastered all that this entails
Skilled in modern methods of developing software using Agile principles, OO methodologies and sound design principles such that you can quickly get up to speed with how we build software and contribute to our ethos of continuous improvement
Passionate about software development technologies and methods with a strong motivation to continue to learn such that you will be a key figure in leading our next generation of innovation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to comprehend, dissect and playback a concise summary of complex matters, such that you can make difficult concepts easy to understand for others
Ability to effectively decompose complex work packages and organise your team to focus on high priority items and mitigate against risks (to delivering on time or below quality) such that your team has clear purpose and direction to work on highest value things at all times
Know what quality means for a software organisation and how to motivate your team to achieve high standards
This role will depend on experience, as well as proven skill depth and breadth in the aspects detailed above. The candidate need not have experience in all of the skills listed in the desirable section above.
