The future of AI-driven Unified Engineering is here
Posted: February 10, 2026
I’m excited to share the latest in AI tools for engineering and design users from AVEVA. A new era of engineering and design has arrived with the release of AVEVA Unified Engineering version 4.0. It’s powered by a coordinated, multi-layered suite of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, and is purpose-built to redefine the future of capital projects. AVEVA embedded three types of AI solutions directly within AVEVA Unified Engineering, which act as intelligent assistants for users, enabling rapid, automated, and interactive creation of complex 3D designs.
These new AI tools unite generative search and optimization, predictive intelligence, and agentic natural-language interaction to elevate and accelerate human decision-making.
With these new AI tools, engineers can: explore more feasible options in less time; validate constructible solutions earlier; and make smarter, data-informed choices with confidence. The ultimate result is faster optioneering, reduced technical risk, and enhanced sustainability performance. This new version transforms engineering and design activities and decisively answers the capital project industry’s most persistent challenge – optimizing productivity.
Build optimal 3D models faster and easier with generative design
Generative design is a process in which AI creates, evaluates, and optimizes multiple design solutions based on goals and constraints, helping human engineers discover efficient and innovative outcomes. In AVEVA Unified Engineering, Generative Design AI (GenDAI) transforms typical 3D pipe routing processes during the critical Pre-FEED and FEED stages.
It evolves the traditional manual approach of trial-and-error modeling with intelligent generative search and optimization, including evolutionary algorithms, to automatically create multiple pipeline routing options. Users can define constraints and directives to minimize total pipe length and reduce the number of elbows, lowering material consumption and cost. The user-friendly interface supports rapid setup through P&ID imports, line lists, manual selection, advanced specifications, and integrated management of rules for spacing and clash control. Multi-group pipe routing with automated or custom constraints allows teams to visualize, compare, and deploy optimal options at scale. The result is faster project completion, reduced design errors, improved layout efficiency, and enhanced flexibility to explore routing strategies optimized for sustainability, constructability, maintenance access, and overall project economics.
Leverage your past data, practices, and domain expertise
Predictive design uses machine-learning (ML) models trained on historical (previously validated and implemented) design data to predict design elements for new projects, thus enhancing the probability of acceptance and reducing approval risk. In AVEVA Unified Engineering, Predictive Design AI (PreDAI) introduces ML-driven intelligence to guide 3D model development and design decisions. While generative design explores multiple possibilities early on, predictive design focuses on forecasting specific outcomes and validating design intent. Embedded directly in the AVEVA Unified Engineering 3D design tools, it leverages machine learning algorithms through an intuitive, no-code workflow. Users can easily build, train, and deploy machine learning models by defining inputs, selecting tasks such as classification or regression, splitting training datasets, and allowing the system to auto-select or customize algorithms with adjustable hyperparameters. A transparent training log provides real-time insight into model development, with the highest-accuracy model automatically deployed and saved to the database. Instead of relying on complex third-party machine-learning tools and specialist ML integration workflows, this release democratizes ML for designers by enabling easier collaboration, reducing errors and rework, and supporting continuous improvement through learning and feedback.
Converse with your project, from intent to actions
Agentic design allows AI agents to understand intent provided in natural language and automatically plan, execute, and improve a given task. In AVEVA Unified Engineering, we introduce a low-agency AI solution that combines guided product usage, on-demand technical support, and direct command execution based on user intent. Integrated through the CONNECT-based industrial AI assistant, it replaces complex menus and manual searches with natural, prompt-driven interaction. Acting as a bridge between user intent and system execution, it delivers contextual guidance, technical insights, and instant task activation. Users can understand advanced options and trigger tools through natural language, making powerful capabilities easy to access. With transparent citations and response regeneration ensuring trust and accuracy, this approach accelerates learning, streamlines onboarding, enables intuitive workflows, and boosts productivity through seamless interaction with AVEVA Unified Engineering.
Redefining and reshaping capital projects delivery
This release launches the first wave of a three-tiered AI revolution transforming engineering and design for faster, more sustainable, and more efficient capital project delivery. With generative, predictive, and agentic design AI embedded into AVEVA Unified Engineering, the foundations of an intelligent, autonomous engineering and design ecosystem are now in place. What was once manual, complex, and time-intensive is becoming instant, predictive, and conversational. But this is only the beginning. More advanced capabilities are already on the roadmap: extending generative design AI across other disciplines (equipment layout, cable/HVAC routing, pipe rack layout, etc.), deepening predictive design intelligence in combination with expert systems, and giving more agency to the industrial AI assistant towards a multi-agentic workflow at scale. The future of engineering is no longer a vision; it is happening now. Let’s build it together.
