Enabling a Business Transformation Journey at Apache Corp with the PI System as a Strategic OT Infrastructure and Analytics Platform
Apache’s history is one of competitive decentralization and resulting diverse operational culture, process, and technology that produced a period of strong performance from inception thru the early 2000’s. However, recognizing a need to strategically evolve, Apache selected the PI System in 2015 as a key element of their 21st century technology stack and enabler of their business transformation journey. This presentation provides an overview of Apache’s journey with the PI System and use as an OT infrastructure and analytical platform in support of their business transformation journey. Highlights will include Apache’s experiences with the: Cygnet Connector implementation; PI System Asset Translator, CTP with PI Vision 4; CTP testing of the new streaming integrator capability enabling streaming data to the suite of engineering desktop tools; implementation of a “layers of analytics”; integrator for ArcGIS. A key theme of the Apache presentation is how they have been challenged and their response to deal with the massive scale and events from of over 10K wells and resulting 900K tags, YYY smart asset templates, xxx elements, and associated layers of analytics
