Hywind Tampen is the world’s largest floating wind farm with 11 turbines in the North Sea. Equinor built the wind farm to generate power for its offshore operations and reduce its CO2 emissions. The company worked with system integrator Goodtech to develop a solution to monitor and control the entire wind farm’s operations from an onshore control room.
“A project of this scale has never been done before. When you have to innovate and execute on a project like this, you need reliable partners. Goodtech, Equinor and AVEVA have done it!”
—Robert Haugum, Senior Sales Manager, Goodtech
Challenges
- Reduce operational CO2 emissions by developing the world’s largest floating wind farm in the North Sea
- Efficiently monitor and control wind turbine operations and maintenance from one onshore control room
- Integrate many third-party systems into the monitoring and control solution
Solutions
- Goodtech deployed AVEVA™ System Platform, integrated with many third-party systems, to enable Equinor’s operators to efficiently monitor and control operations and maintenance of the offshore wind turbines from the onshore control room.
Results
- 200K tonnes per year reduction in CO2 emissions
- Generating power for Equinor’s operations, with an installed capacity of 94.6 MW, through efficient monitoring and control of the offshore turbines.
