Overview of Known Autopublish Issue
There is a known issue where pages that are "Not Published" in Live Copy do actually get published to the live site, its sitemap.xml, and Coveo search results, if they are not marked as “No Index” and “Hide from Coveo”, when content is copied from one environment to another.
This was part of the issues that occurred in September 2022 during Coveo launch.
There is no technical solution to avoid this autopublish issue, so all processes to mitigate and manage this inconvenient challenge are manual content management authoring activities unfortunately.
Mitigation Activities
Do the following BEFORE the autopublish occurs.
Unpublished Pages
- Unpublish pages according to instructions provided to prevent pages getting into the external sitemap.xml and the internal Coveo search results when they autopublish.
- Follow the ARCHIVE naming convention in the Title field to allow authors to quickly and easily pull a list of impacted pages to manually unpublish.
Published Pages
- Mark all applicable No Index pages as "No Index" if they should not be found in external search
- Mark all applicable pages as Hide from Coveo if they should not be found in internal search
Post-Launch Content Management Activities
Do the following AFTER the autopublish occurs.
Unpublish Pages in All Languages
- Search for "archive" in Sites to generate a list of impacted pages. (also search for DEAD, HOLD, REPRESENTATIVE until these pages have been deleted from AEM backend)
- Export a CSV for a reference of impacted pages.
- Highlight the impacted pages in AEM.
- Do Manage Publish, and select Unpublish option to re-unpublish the pages.
Audit Sitemap.xml in All Languages
Verify the following:
- No ARCHIVE links are dsplaying
- No /avevasandbox links are displaying
- No /governance links are displaying
- No /campaigns links are displaying

Audit Sitemap Webpage in All Languages
Verify the following:
- No ARCHIVE links are displaying
Audit All Coveo Search Results in All Languages
Refer to Search Page Links for inventory of search page links to check, as well as internal sitemap.xml links.
- Look at the facet options to ensure there are no issues
- Look at the search results to ensure there are no pages showing up that should not be appearing in the results
