AVISTA provides electricity and gas to 800,000 customers in the Pacific Northwest, an area with high fire risks. Using AVEVA™ PI System™, AVISTA created a fire-risk dashboard that gathers tens of thousands of data points to provide a simplified view of its fire-risk metrics. The dashboard allows its operators to proactively deenergize sections of the electrical system that are at risk and efficiently reenergize sections when it’s safe again, keeping people safe and reducing outage times.
“The simplified view allows the operators to really drill into the specific pieces of information that they need to make the right decisions in a short amount of time”
—Jonathan Gibbs, Control Systems Specialist, AVISTA
