Toyo Engineering Corporation Drives Data-Centric Engineering With AVEVA Solutions

New deal accelerates EPC activities by transforming digital collaboration and engineering processes, with the aim of increasing productivity six-fold by 2025

London, United Kingdom, 21 October 2022 – AVEVA, a global leader in industrial software, driving digital transformation and sustainability, has announced that Toyo Engineering Corporation (hereinafter, “TOYO”), the Japanese engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, has developed and successfully tested an engineering data integration platform utilizing AVEVA Unified Engineering and AVEVA Asset Information Management. The project aims to boost productivity six-fold through integrated design and engineering processes. The deal was executed by AVEVA’s Japanese subsidiary, AVEVA K.K.

Engineering transformation center of excellence

In order to rapidly and flexibly respond to customer needs, TOYO established a DXoT (Digital Transformation of TOYO) Promotion Department in July 2019 to transform the existing business processes and increase productivity six-fold by fiscal year 2025.

With the aim of reducing the number of man-hours required on EPC projects by half, TOYO’s engineering department has been driving several business renovations. Among them, a core integrated platform supports the creation of a single, reliable source of information by transitioning paper-based processes to data-oriented approaches. Furthermore, TOYO is enhancing the data platform involving the project, supply chain, and construction departments to realize overall EPC digital transformation

Integrated digital engineering

The digitalized project execution requires the integration of many EPC systems provided by different suppliers. AVEVA solutions were chosen for their ability to support an open and vendor-agnostic information-sharing ecosystem.

The engineering data integration platform uses the following AVEVA products:

Shinya Tsuda, General Manager of DX Engineering Division, Engineering and Technology Unit of TOYO, said: “To date, AVEVA has cooperated with us by implementing engineering tools and providing support for each EPC project, but in this development, AVEVA also participated as a member of our core system development and implementation project. Throughout, AVEVA provided us with advice based on their global experience and expertise, not only on the configuration and implementation of the tools but also on the operational aspects. They also shared their knowledge of international standards for data handover, which is a key development requirement that led to its success. With continued support from AVEVA, we will continue our efforts to further enhance functionality to achieve a six-fold increase in productivity.”

Masaki Kogure, Vice President, Head of Japan at AVEVA K.K., said: “The TOYO Data Centric initiative, which began in 2019, is a groundbreaking case of a holistic concept that is driven by a deep understanding of the Data Centric idea. This project includes a clear vision and a comprehensive perspective, which will be the key to accelerating the use of information in all industries and sectors. AVEVA will work closely with TOYO and support this initiative, which is at the core of their mid- to long-term plans for DXoT, not only in terms of technology but also in support.”

TOYO aims to use its new integrated platform as the standard infrastructure foundation for all its engineering activities and to strengthen its global engineering development network. TOYO also plans to standardize the use of the data-centered business transformation tools globally to increase their operational benefits.
