The “Cognite Way” will endure

It’s a truism about acquisitions that the best ones preserve what made the acquired company successful to begin with.

Last week, we announced our entry into an agreement to acquire Cognite.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of required regulatory approvals.

I want to take a moment to share a few thoughts with Cognite’s employees, customers and partners.

Cognite is a remarkable company.

It’s a business based on deep intimacy with customers: sitting side by side with operators and engineers, co-developing use cases, iterating quickly, and measuring itself on the value delivered.

This is the “Cognite Way.”

It’s a big part of what has made Cognite the success it is today.

Much of the reaction to this news has rightly focused on technology complementarities. We already know the synergies between Cognite Data Fusion, Atlas AI, Flows and the AVEVA portfolio are substantial.

Cognite’s whole stack has been designed to unlock value from industrial data within a fully open ecosystem—and open is how it will stay.

The combined platform will ingest and contextualize data from across our customers' entire pre-existing data ecosystems, including third-party sources—because openness is the key advantage.

Cognite's rich library of industrial extractors will join AVEVA's connectors so that, together, we can extract and contextualize more industrial data than anyone in the industry, wherever that data lives and whoever's systems produce it. Cognite Data Fusion will become a foundational element of AVEVA’s industrial AI strategy going forward, further accelerating the shift from analytics that describe operations to AI that acts.

In short, we plan to preserve these capabilities as keystones of our innovation roadmap.

But technology is only part of the story.

I am equally impressed with the talent, impact focus and customer value orientation that form the backbone of Cognite’s culture. We see the Cognite Way as one of the primary reasons we made this acquisition, founded on a long-held conviction that our missions, focus and cultures are aligned. In successful integrations, cultural fit is as decisive as technology fit.

The Cognite Way begins by asking questions like:

  • What operational problem are you trying to solve?
  • Where is value being lost?
  • How can a successful use case be scaled across facilities and geographies?

These are questions that preoccupy us as well.

Schneider Electric's “mission-based” operating model encourages teams to organize around customer objectives, collaborate across functions and focus relentlessly on impact.

AVEVA's history has likewise been built on helping customers improve performance, resilience and sustainability through solutions that connect people, data and operations.

We also have a shared vision for what AI in industry requires.

The future belongs to organizations that can combine contextualized industrial data, deep domain expertise and AI-powered insights to help people make better decisions, faster.

That includes the frontline workers, operators and engineers whom Cognite aptly refers to as “industrial heroes.”

Those customers bet on a partner, not just a platform—a team that innovates alongside them and stays accountable for outcomes.

That is exactly the bet we have made now as well.

Together, our ambition is simple: accelerate customer value and transform how industries can operate.

Impact. Fast innovation. Customer value focus.

These are principles that have made Cognite the remarkable company it is today.

The Cognite Way isn't something we plan to change. It's something we plan to scale.
