Power Generation Q&A Session - When Turbines Go Bump in the Night - Shedding Light on Lost Revenue

Operating 3000 wind turbines across North America, EDF Renewables faces the constant challenge of keeping their assets running. While site maintenance crew prefer to repair during daytime, turbines fail at any hour. If they fail overnight, and crew isn’t called in, turbines don't produce revenue until crew return. Crew callouts were decided using current wind conditions, not knowing the future revenue at stake. The PI System provided a better way. EDF created a solution that provides automated, real-time estimates of future revenue loss of offline turbines. Once this solution was switched on, there were several interesting developments: - Revealed $4 million/year of lost revenue - Incorporated measures for crew safety - Empowered decision makers to edit estimates based off their knowledge The revealing of such potential value, combined with the challenge of integrating the human element into an enterprise data solution, makes a compelling story of operational intelligence in action.
