Evonik: AI Won’t Save You, Your Data Culture Will
Undoubtedly, AI will open many new use cases and options, but as with any new application we need to understand its boundaries and pre-requisites. Our thesis is, that technology is not defining the success of AI implementations, the general culture of data management is . Our idea is to build that from a simple and easy starting point. Educating how to connect the various applications to one overarching data driven ecosystem will take time, but ultimately build a sustainable data backbone. Building this on top of our established AVEVA software landscape may ease the transition into this new world and bring additional benefit to the existing environment, through a faster transition into the world of AI and a reduction in risk of failed AI projects due to wrong expectations and/or missing foundation.

Based on a University Degree in Engineering and Computer Science I started my career at Evonik (Degussa at that time) in 1988 in R&D establishing the early digitalization solutions in labs. Afterwards I spent more than 25 years in IT holding various global positions in project management, communication operation and client support. Approximately 10 of these years I worked in the US and in Singapore. Spending 7 years in Technology and Infrastructure developing, implementing and deploying Evonik’s data driven CAE solution with the strong focus on data integration. Currently responsible at Evonik's Global Digitalization Services for Digital Solutions in the area of Plant Design.

Norman Schröter is Head of Plant Design & Maintenance at Evonik Industries, where he leads the development and implementation of digital solutions across the entire asset lifecycle. Previously, he was responsible for Data Management Operations and the digitalization of maintenance processes. With more than 20 years of experience in engineering, E&I technology, and international project management, he combines deep technical expertise with a strong focus on digital transformation and scalable operational excellence.
