A guide to bringing industrial data into CONNECT

Posted: May 04, 2026

As AVEVA continues evolving its industrial intelligence platform, you might ask a simple question:

“How do I get my industrial data into CONNECT?”

The short answer: CONNECT is designed to be open, flexible, and fully vendor‑neutral. That means you can pull in data from numerous sources, including edge devices, historians, PLCs, SCADA systems, AVEVA products, third‑party on-premises and cloud apps, and even your own custom applications, using standard integrations and protocols.

Let’s break that down further into the major pathways for ingesting data into CONNECT, so you can choose the best fit for your architecture, environment, and business needs.

1. AVEVA’s hybrid applications to CONNECT

CONNECT enriches AVEVA’s on-premises systems by extending them with the cloud.  AVEVA software integrates natively with CONNECT, and once enabled, you can select the relevant data, backfill historical time ranges as needed, and quickly unlock enterprise‑ready visibility, data sharing, and analytical dashboards.

Why extending these applications is useful:

  • AVEVA™ PI System™ and AVEVA™ Operations Control: When you take the context of these on-premises environments to the cloud, you can empower remote teams and decision-makers with operations visibility, collaboration, and data-driven insights.
  • AVEVA™ Asset Information Management: When you blend 1D, 2D, and 3D engineering data with operational time-series and event data, you gain the ability to align design intent with operational performance to drive lifecycle optimization and smarter decisions.

These systems are likely already in place actively supporting your operations and engineering activities—they simply need additional configuration in your CONNECT account to maximize your data’s value.

See what CONNECT can do with your industrial data in this video.

2. Adapters & OMF: From machine to CONNECT

Industrial systems communicate through many individual protocols like OPC UA and MQTT. AVEVA Adapters are lightweight apps that securely send data to CONNECT using Open Message Format (OMF), offering flexibility across a wide range of use cases.

Why AVEVA Adapters are useful:

They:

  • run on Windows or Linux, from Raspberry Pi to full servers.
  • handle high‑throughput ingestion (up to ~50,000 events/sec).
  • discover data automatically and buffers during outages.
  • ensure secure data transfer using Open Message Format (OMF).
  • configure without code using EdgeCmd or JSON files.
  • install quickly and excel at real-time, time-series ingestion.
  • support OPC UA, Modbus TCP, MQTT, RDBMS, DNP3, Azure Event Hubs, Structured Data File, BACnet, and more.

If you’re seeking point-to-point data communications, AVEVA Adapters are the ideal choice for quick and simple integration.

See how Adapters work in this video.

3. Crosser flows to CONNECT

AVEVA’s recent acquisition of Crosser brings a powerful integration mechanism: flows. Flows are visual, no-code/low-code pipelines that process industrial data in real time. Flows can transform, filter, enrich, and analyze data as it streams in, and they can trigger actions based on conditions you define.

Why flows are useful:

They:

  • integrate with over 800 systems.
  • connect multiple sources to multiple destinations.
  • use a module library to transform data and trigger automations.
  • integrate ET, IT, and OT data between any combination of systems and applications.
  • can be deployed across edge, on-premises, and cloud environments.

Flows can be used for a large amount of potential use cases involving the movement and transformation of data across industrial IoT, data engineering, and enterprise integration, including Unified Namespace (UNS) and data modeling initiatives.

4. AVEVA Edge Data Store to CONNECT

In remote or small-scale operations, data transfer often relies on long-range networks with limited bandwidth and sporadic connectivity. Any solution must be rugged and able to recover from power outages on its own, without manual intervention. AVEVA Edge Data Store offers local short-term buffering and secure egress to CONNECT. This provides the essential storage and connectivity you need, without the overhead of a large on‑premises system.

Why AVEVA Edge Data Store is useful:

The solution:

  • Buffers (and temporarily stores) data during network outages.
  • Handles ~3,000 streams and ~3,000 events/second.
  • Runs on small gateways, Linux/Windows, and embedded devices.
  • Sends historical and real‑time data to CONNECT.

AVEVA Edge Data Store overcomes many of the challenges of operating in remote environments to deliver high-fidelity operations data back to the central datastore for permanent archiving and future use.

5. Developer tools for CONNECT

If you’re building custom apps, integrations, or other solutions where one of the previous methods won’t work, CONNECT provides REST and GraphQL APIs with SDKs to customize how you read and write data programmatically. API consoles provide a graphical interface that developers can use to configure and test API requests before implementing them in their own applications.

Why CONNECT’s developer resources are useful:

  • Supported languages in Python, C#, Java, and JavaScript
  • Customize the read and write process for ingressed data
  • Push assets, metadata, and manage namespaces
  • Access code samples that illustrate examples for using the APIs

See how the code samples can be used to jumpstart custom projects in this YouTube video.

CONNECT, the industrial intelligence platform

As you’ve seen, CONNECT provides a secure, scalable, and flexible path for unifying data across your industrial ecosystem.  From IIoT sensors and edge devices, to hybrid applications and many other data sources, CONNECT has the integration tools to meet any project requirement, ensuring industrial data is delivered where it can be of most benefit without disrupting existing systems. The result is a modern, enterprise‑ready industrial intelligence foundation that removes traditional data silos, so teams can leverage their trusted information for new use cases, enhanced collaboration, and rapid value creation.
