Sigmafine Express: Scalable data reconciliation-as-a-service on CONNECT

“Can we trust our process data?” Before organizations with complex industrial operations can even begin their digital transformations, they often find themselves asking this frustrating question. Despite major investments in instrumentation and automation, operators often find that their plant data frequently remains incomplete, inconsistent, or inaccurate. And when the foundational data is flawed, organizations must confront problems like eroded operational confidence and weak analytics.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Pimsoft has developed Sigmafine Express to validate, reconcile, and condition data—quickly—so that organizations don’t have to lose time worrying if their data is trustworthy. Instead, they know it is.

Why Sigmafine Express

To shore up their plant data, operators have traditionally turned to tools like Pimsoft’s Sigmafine. It’s a leading industrial data reconciliation solution widely used for mass and energy balances, production accounting, emissions reporting, and asset performance management. But there’s a catch: Traditional deployments require heavy infrastructure and long deployment timelines. And the delays involved can prove costly—especially when organizations begin working with inaccurate data.

Pimsoft set out to simplify the customer experience. It wanted users to focus on using Sigmafine, not managing infrastructure. That’s why Pimsoft decided on CONNECT. Many of its existing and potential customers were already using the industrial platform. Because CONNECT provides easy access to data, Pimsoft could focus on developing a solution to transform and enrich this data so clients could make more informed decisions.

With the support of AVEVA’s Managed Solution Provider program, which enables clients to design, build, and market CONNECT-related value-adding services, Pimsoft soon launched a new offering: Sigmafine Express. The solution is designed to seamlessly bring industrial data validation and reconciliation to more industrial operators through the CONNECT platform. Sigmafine Express delivers trusted, reconciled data for operational decision-making, performance monitoring, compliance, and more.

By relying on CONNECT, Pimsoft sets a new standard for how critical industrial software can be delivered: cloud-based, operator-focused, and quickly deployed.

How Sigmafine Express works

Sigmafine Express reimagines data reconciliation as a cloud-based service. It combines Pimsoft’s proven engine with an agile, hybrid architecture built for CONNECT to provide a useful tool for all processes and industries.

Pimsoft takes care of managing the infrastructure and operations, enabling users to focus on the insights they need. Operators can access reconciled outputs in the browser-based SigmafineHub GUI and dispatch results to the customer’s CONNECT tenant. Then they can be integrated readily into on-premises systems like AVEVA™ PI System™ and AVEVA™ PI Vision™.

Sigmafine Express enables users to securely share their data by setting up communities’ permissions. Through CONNECT communities, industrial operators can securely select and share operational data with Pimsoft’s tenants—fully under operator control, and adjustable at any time. If they’re not already using CONNECT data services, they can onboard data easily via built-in connectors for OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, and other industrial protocols.

With its minimal overhead and installation time, Sigmafine Express quickly delivers results—the accurate, timely, and trustworthy data that organizations need to optimize their operations.

TAQA Morocco, Morocco’s largest independent power producer, was one of the first enterprises to deploy the new solution. TAQA Morocco had already embarked on its own journey of digital transformation. It had fully integrated AVEVA PI System into its operations and developed a robust e-monitoring center to enable near real-time performance monitoring. However, to optimize its load dispatching and stay competitive in the dynamic energy market, it needed a better understanding of how steam was distributed across its turbine stages. Without the measurements of all its key flow rates, it knew there was always the risk that it was operating below peak efficiency.

The utility wanted to find a reliable way to perform mass and energy balances in near real time without compromising its IT infrastructure, which already had to devote significant resources to support AVEVA PI System applications. In collaboration with Pimsoft and AVEVA, TAQA Morocco adopted CONNECT and Sigmafine Express to achieve this balance without any technical disruptions. Since TAQA was already using AVEVA PI System, it chose the agile PI to CONNECT agent to integrate its process data into CONNECT.

From there, it was straightforward. The power producer seamlessly selected and shared their data with Pimsoft and Sigmafine Express. In turn, Sigmafine Express fed back the validated results to TAQA engineers at the e-monitoring center. The engineers then operationalized them in AVEVA PI Vision dashboards providing TAQA Morocco’s teams with the granular visualization of the system and its turbines that they needed to optimize its function.

This project achieved:

• Full steam network balance for a 2GW coal-fired plant.
• Identification of a 20 t/h measurement bias in a key high-pressure line.
• Zero disruption of existing IT and OT systems.
• Deployment in under 30 days—more than 30 days fewer than the two months it would have taken with the legacy approach.

Blueprint for success: The Managed Solution Provider (MSP) program

Sigmafine Express—the result of Pimsoft’s success with the Managed Solution Provider (MSP) program—is more than a solution: it’s a blueprint. The MSP program is designed to help solution providers, like Pimsoft, accelerate the development and delivery of industrial-grade applications to CONNECT users. With AVEVA’s reach and ecosystem to scale these solutions, solution providers are set up for success.

Through the MSP program’s guided technical workshops and access to AVEVA development packages, Pimsoft was able to rapidly launch a pilot solution. Over time, Pimsoft achieved certified status, unlocking co-marketing opportunities to support their solution launch, listing on the CONNECT Ecosystem and scalable commercialization support.
