No company is an island in the battle against climate change

The earth is suffering and needs our immediate help. That was underscored again recently when the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report warned that global warming of 1.5°C and 2°C will be exceeded by 2100 without deep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) in the coming decades, with heat extremes potentially reaching critical tolerance thresholds for agriculture and health.
The good news is that businesses are beginning to demonstrate leadership in tackling the climate challenges ahead. About 80% of major international companies now report on sustainability, and thousands of enterprises have committed to net-zero emissions by 2050 through initiatives such as the Race to Zero and Business Ambition for 1.5°C. AVEVA is aligned to the highest level of ambition for climate targets, with a commitment to the Scope 3 standard comprising both direct and indirect emissions.
While individual companies must each do their part, only collaborative action will achieve the critical mass necessary to realize Net Zero and go beyond to climate positivity. Working together will allow us to prevent global catastrophe on an even wider scale than we have seen this year.
At AVEVA, we recognize the power of partnership in achieving sustainable targets. We partner with customers to reduce GHGs by providing advanced technologies to optimize production, improve environmental efficiency, decrease fuel costs and reduce waste. We also rely on trusted partners to help customers build resilient, zero-carbon operations that unlock inclusive and sustainable growth.
Ballard, Microsoft and AVEVA: Transforming the Power Sector
In July, AVEVA was named Microsoft’s Energy Partner of the Year 2021, and a finalist for the Sustainability Changemaker Partner of the Year award. By combining Microsoft’s productive Azure cloud platform with AVEVA's deep industry expertise, customers have harnessed breakthrough capabilities for digital transformation across their operations.
For example, Ballard Power Systems monitors fuel cell products across its global operations with a cloud solution powered by AVEVA Insight and Microsoft Azure. Thanks to real-time data and insights combined with analytic capabilities, the Vancouver-based company enjoys increased operational visibility, enhanced plant asset utilization and improved decision-making support.
Vale, Schneider Electric and AVEVA: Building a Greener Mining Sector
Together, Schneider Electric and AVEVA have developed a joint digital transformation solution that combines energy management, automation systems and services with innovative industrial software. The companies have worked on hundreds of joint implementations on premise, on site and in the cloud. AVEVA’s industrial software extends Schneider Electric EcoStruxure solutions for tangible results: enriched asset performance, higher return on capital, increased energy efficiency and enhanced plant sustainability.
Brazilian multinational Vale, the world’s leading producer of iron ore, pellets and nickel, is leveraging this partnership. Using a single integrated platform to digest and analyze data, Vale is driving better visibility, standardization and remote capabilities across critical production sites. Benefits include heightened worker safety, improved resilience and energy efficiency, lower operational costs, and greater overall sustainability. Vale executive Gilberto da Cunha Vieira makes the case for partnership more eloquently than I can: “The collaboration between our companies has created something much greater than the sum of its parts.”
Coalition for Change: Lasting Sustainability Requires Partnering
AVEVA believes in a world where economic growth supports environmental sustainability, and vice versa. In recent months, we have joined a global public-private coalition aiming to limit the worst effects of climate change. We are committed to achieving a science-based reduction in direct and indirect emissions and are already implementing energy reduction measures across our offices, procuring renewable energy, and engaging with suppliers and customers on climate action.
The immense task ahead requires a collaborative effort to achieve global climate targets and deliver a cleaner, greener planet to our children. Teamwork is the only way to tackle the climate emergency and save the earth. I invite you to partner with us on this journey to a lasting and sustainable future today.
